Michael Lemass - Production Sound Mixer Biography:
I started working in sound way back in 1993 and recorded my first feature film in 1995 starring Maria de Medeiros(Pulp Fiction) and Michael McElhatton(Game of Thrones) and have worked on many feature films, television dramas and documentaries since then.
More recently in 2016 and 2017 I recorded a 10 week international coproduction feature film “Muse” for Fantastic Films shooting in Ireland, Belgium and Spain which was directed by multi-award winning Spanish director Jaume Balagueró. In April and May 2017 I was recording another feature film “Don’t leave home” for Subotica Films and American director Michael Tully which premiered in Ireland at the Galway Film Festival 2018.
Also in 2017 I was working on “The life after” a feature documentary in Northern Ireland for Century Films UK which was funded by the Irish Filmboard and the BBC and World premiered at the Galway Film Festival 2018. In September and October 2017 I recorded another international feature film “Don’t Leave Home” which was shooting in Dublin, Luxembourg and Canada.
Recently a feature film I recorded sound on called “Sanctuary” won Best Irish Film 2017 in the Irish Times Readers Poll and from the Dublin Film Critics. The film has been out on general release in Ireland and the UK, gaining 4 and 5 star reviews and a really great review from Mark Kermode.
In July 2016 at the Galway Film Festival the 3 films I recorded sound on came away with 5 awards in total.
I recorded sound for the winner of Best Documentary and Best Cinematography “Its not yet dark” and the feature “Sanctuary” which won Best First Irish Feature.
And I was honoured to have recorded the re-shoots for Darren Thornton’s/ Element Pictures' brilliant feature “A date for mad Mary” which was joint winner of Best Irish Feature in Galway and won Best New Talent for the lead actress. It also picked up Best Film at the annual Irish Film and Television Awards.
In addition to recording sound on set I am also experienced in post production sound since completing a 3 month internship in Skywalker Sound, California in 2001. I gained invaluable experience working alongside several multi-Oscar winning sound designers and mixers on Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Punch Drunk Love” and David Fincher’s “Panic Room”.
I’m Dublin based but am increasingly working abroad and I speak fluent French having lived there for 4 years.
I own all my own sound equipment for full drama feature film recording and hold a clean Irish drivers license.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss sound on any upcoming projects. I am happy to travel for interviews and to read scripts.
